Gates of Hades
Tue May 27, 2025
In the online slot universe, success rarely stands alone for long. When a title catches fire, sequels and spin-offs are never far behind. That was certainly the case with Gates of Olympus, Pragmatic Play’s breakout scatter-pay sensation from 2021. Its huge popularity sparked a wave of imitators and successors—one of the most intriguing being Gates of Hades.
This isn’t just Olympus in goth makeup. Gates of Hades trades celestial splendor for infernal intensity—and brings some major gameplay shakeups along the way.
From Mountaintop to Underworld
Where Gates of Olympus floated in the heavens among drifting clouds and gold trim, its darker cousin drags players into a scorched, shadowy world. The setting is unmistakably hellish, with Hades himself towering over the reels, his flaming hair flickering ominously. Lightning flashes behind him, and a dark, molten backdrop sets the stage. It’s immersive, moody, and genuinely impactful—a visual overhaul that earns its own identity.
Gameplay Overhaul: Cluster Pays Take the Throne
The biggest change? Cluster pays replace scatter pays, shaking up the core mechanics entirely.
Instead of needing matching symbols in scattered positions, wins now come from clusters of 5+ matching symbols connected either horizontally or vertically. Winning clusters vanish, triggering a tumble mechanic that drops in new symbols and opens the door for chain reactions of payouts.
- RTP: Up to 96.52%
- Volatility: High
- Bet Range: €0.20 to €240 per spin
Symbols include five colorful gems (green, blue, purple, orange, red) and three high-tier relics: a cup, ring, and crown. Payouts range from modest for 5-symbol clusters to a juicy 150x your stake for large 15+ clusters.
The Real Heat: Wild Multipliers
Here’s where Gates of Hades gets devilishly exciting. Wild symbols can land with multipliers between x1 and x100. These aren’t one-and-done either—when a tumble hits and multipliers are involved, they stick above the reels they landed on.
If those reels are involved in another win during the same tumble sequence? You get the full sum of multipliers applied to your win. Once the combo ends, the multipliers disappear… unless you’re in Free Spins. Speaking of…
Free Spins & Super Free Spins
Scatter symbols are your ticket to the infernal bonus round:
- 3 Scatters: 10 Free Spins
- 4 Scatters: 12 Free Spins
- 5 Scatters: 15 Free Spins
- 6+ Scatters: 20 Super Free Spins
Super Free Spins take things up a notch. They start with a guaranteed minimum multiplier of x10, which can dramatically ramp up your win potential.
In both Free Spins modes:
- Multipliers no longer reset between tumbles.
- Maximum multiplier value increases to x500.
- Extra scatters during the bonus can award 5–12 additional spins.
Feeling impatient? A Bonus Buy feature is available:
- 100x your bet gets you regular Free Spins.
- 500x your bet drops you straight into Super Free Spins.
Worth the Descent?
Let’s be honest—when we first heard “Gates of Hades,” it sounded like a quick cash-in on a popular brand. But this isn’t a lazy reskin. It’s a genuine reinvention.
By swapping scatter pays for cluster wins and tossing in those volatile wild multipliers, Gates of Hades reshapes the experience entirely. It’s riskier, punchier, and carries a higher max win—up to 10,000x, doubling what its heavenly predecessor offered.
If you’re drawn to high-volatility games with bold visuals, aggressive features, and massive potential, Gates of Hades might just be your next obsession.
